Setting up care reminders
Care reminders are scheduled prompts attached to a specific plant. They fire as emails and (if you've opted in on mobile) push notifications when due. You can dismiss them, snooze them, mark them complete, or, for recurring ones, let them auto-respawn on cadence. This is the difference between "I should have watered yesterday" and "I watered yesterday because I got the reminder."
Three ways reminders get created
Automatically on unhealthy scans. When a scan flags a disease or disorder, GrowPilot schedules a 7-day follow-up reminder so you re-check the plant after treatment. You don't have to do anything.
Manually from /reminders. Click + New reminder, pick a plant, choose kind (Water, Fertilize, Prune, Inspect, Repot, Mist, Rotate, Custom), set when, optionally set a recurring cadence (every N days), and create.
Manually from a plant's detail page. The same form lives in the Reminders tab of any saved plant, pre-bound to that plant so you skip the plant picker.
What "recurring" means
Set Repeat every N days when you create a reminder, and it becomes a recurring chain. When the reminder fires (or you mark it Done), GrowPilot automatically schedules the next occurrence N days out, with the same kind, title, and plant.
This is the right setup for routines like "water the basil every 3 days", set it once, forget it. Hit Done when you've watered, and the next reminder shows up on the right day without any manual rescheduling.
What happens when a reminder is due
A daily cron runs at 14:00 UTC. It picks up every reminder whose scheduled date has passed (or whose snooze window has ended) and sends two things: an email to the address on your account, and, if you've enabled care-reminder push notifications in Settings, a push to your registered devices.
Both email and push are gated by your Notification preferences. Turning off Care reminders in Settings stops both channels for that event class.
Done, Snooze, Dismiss, what's the difference?
Done: you did the task before the reminder fired. Marks the reminder complete and, if recurring, immediately schedules the next occurrence. Use this for routine tasks you got to early.
Snooze: not the right time. Push the reminder out 3, 7, or 14 days. The reminder stays on cadence after that.
Dismiss: I don't need this reminder. The reminder is archived, no future occurrences are created (even if recurring). Use this when you're done with the routine, e.g., you stopped misting the orchid for the season.
Tier limits on user-created reminders
Basic: 1 active user-created reminder at a time.
Grower: 10 active.
Cultivator: unlimited.
Auto-created reminders (from unhealthy scans) don't count against your limit on any tier, only ones you create manually.
Frequently asked
- Why isn't my reminder firing on the exact time I set?
- The reminders cron runs once daily at 14:00 UTC. Anything scheduled before then fires that day; anything later fires the next day. If your reminder is for 9am local and the cron runs at 9am UTC after that, your push arrives within ~24 hours of the scheduled time. If you need precise hourly timing, request hourly cron, happy to wire it up.
- Will I get an email if I've already done the task and hit Done first?
- No. Marking Done sets the reminder's sent_at field to now, which removes it from the cron's queue. The email never fires.
- I dismissed a recurring reminder by mistake, can I bring it back?
- Recurring reminders create their next occurrence on Done or email-send, not on Dismiss. Dismissing one stops the chain. To restart, create a new reminder with the same kind, plant, and cadence. The pattern resumes.
- Can I get reminders without push or email?
- Yes: the /reminders page in the app shows every upcoming reminder regardless of notification preferences. If you turn off Care reminders in Settings, you simply won't get a nudge, but the schedule is still there to check in-app.
