Using GrowPilot

Saving and managing your plant collection

By GrowPilot Editorial·5 min read·Updated May 29, 2026

A saved plant is the unit GrowPilot organizes everything else around. Once you save a plant, every future scan, note, reminder, and photo attaches to it automatically. Here's how saving works, what the per-tier limits mean in practice, and what the plant detail page shows.

What "saving" actually does

When you hit Save to My Plants on a scan result, GrowPilot creates a permanent plant row in your collection. The scan's image becomes the plant's cover photo, the scientific species is preserved as the italic subtitle, and the friendly name you enter becomes the plant's title.

Every future scan you tag to that plant (via the Rescan button on the plant detail page) gets linked automatically. The saved plant becomes the home for that plant's full history.

Plant slots per tier

Basic, 1 saved plant. Lets you try the feature with the plant you care most about.

Grower, 25 saved plants. Right for hobbyists and home gardens.

Cultivator: unlimited. For collections, hydroponic setups, and commercial cultivators.

When you hit your tier's limit, the Save button on new scans shows "Plant slot full, upgrade to save more." You can still delete an existing plant to free a slot.

What's on the plant detail page

Title (your friendly name), italic species subtitle, and added date sit at the top alongside Rescan, PDF report, and Delete buttons.

Tabs below: Timeline (every scan in chronological order with health-status badges), Notes (journal entries), Photos (cover + every scan image), Compare (side-by-side scans, Grower+), Reminders (care schedule for this plant).

On Grower and Cultivator, additional controls appear: growth-stage selector, tag editor, batch assignment (Cultivator).

Renaming, deleting, and what survives

Rename anytime by clicking the pencil icon next to the plant's title. The scientific species subtitle stays the same, that's the AI-identified species, not your custom name.

Delete removes the plant from your collection. Scan history is preserved by default (you can still see past diagnoses in your scan history); cover photos are deleted from blob storage.

Deletion is reversible only within ~24 hours via support, after that, the cover image is permanently purged.

Frequently asked

Why don't I see a Save button on my scan result?
Three possibilities: (1) you've hit your tier's plant limit, delete an existing plant or upgrade; (2) the scan failed mid-process; (3) the scan was anonymous (unauthenticated demo). Sign in if you haven't, and the button appears.
Can I move a scan between plants if I tagged it to the wrong one?
Yes: open the scan from your scan history, click the menu, and choose "Link to a different plant." Useful when you save the wrong plant or split one plant into two.
Does deleting a plant cancel its care reminders?
The plant link on existing reminders is set to null but the reminders themselves stay active. You can dismiss them individually from /reminders. Future scans of the deleted plant won't auto-link.
If I downgrade tiers, do my extra plants disappear?
No, you don't lose data on a downgrade, your existing plants are preserved. You just can't add new plants beyond your new tier's limit until you delete some or upgrade again.
